Volunteer Florida is currently looking for a Volunteer Services Director to join our team! If you possess industry knowledge, have great organizational skills and have the ability to set goals and priorities, this may be the position for you!  The position is based in Tallahassee, Florida.

Position Summary

This position acts as a liaison for volunteer services stakeholders, working to strategically promote volunteerism in Florida though capacity-building and engagement.  It assists in engaging and equipping organizations who utilize volunteers with customized training, support, resources and convenings in order to create and grow strong and successful volunteer programs and networks.  This position presents on best practices and relevant data about volunteerism and volunteer management at large scale conferences and events across the state, establishing Volunteer Florida as a thought leader and expert in the field.  This position manages all technical, operational and conceptual elements of Volunteer Connect, Volunteer Florida’s statewide volunteer opportunities portal.  It complements the Emergency Management department work during grey skies by managing volunteer inquiries and equipping Emergency Management partners to use Volunteer Connect before, during and after activation events. 

Desired Skills and Experience

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ relevant work experience or seven years of relevant experience to substitute for the educational degree.  The ideal candidate will be internally motivated towards excellence, be a team player with volunteer management and training experience and will have a passion for service.

Other knowledge, skills and experience include the following:

  • Volunteer Management — Knowledge of volunteer management and assisting organizations that achieve their strategic goals by engaging and mobilizing volunteers.
  • Volunteer Service Coordination – Demonstrated ability to coordinate volunteers and volunteer opportunities during high stress, high volume disaster times.
  • Verbal and Written Communication— Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Complex Problem Solving — Demonstrated ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to work independently and as part of a high performing team.
  • Organization – Skill in maintaining a high level of organization with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. Skill in time management.
  • Travel – Ability to travel overnight for training or tabling events, as
