Basic Function:

Advance the mission of Volunteer Tennessee through volunteer outreach activities and communications.

Philosophy of the position:

The position works to strengthen and expand Volunteer TN’s reach through a volunteer management portal that supports communities; volunteer recognition programs that increase volunteerism; and communications and marketing that raise awareness of Volunteer TN and its initiatives.

Essential functions:

Volunteer Outreach & Recognition (65%)

  1. Plan and implement Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards (GVSA) volunteer recognition event:
    1. Recruit and manage GVSA County Coordinators.
    2. Develop and manage GVSA budget and assist in securing event logistics.
    3. Develop partnerships and sponsors for GVSA.
    4. Manage communications, logistics, and registration for approximately 350 GVSA participants.
  2. Coordinate the statewide Tennessee Serves volunteer management portal:
    1. Develop and manage relationships with statewide portal sub-license holders.
    2. Assist in developing portal sub-license contracts with outside organizations.
    3. Recruit non-profits outside of sub-license holder service areas and work with them to develop local volunteer listings.
    4. Manage statewide portal listings.
  3. Support Corporate Social Purpose Network (CSPN):
    1. Plan, schedule, and facilitate CSPN meetings and events, including Purpose Exchanges and conference Corporate track.
    2. Manage member recruitment, communications, and engagement.
    3. Develop and maintain CSPN documents and resources, including governance manual and best practice toolkits.
  4. Coordinate the Award of Excellence (AOE) school service and volunteerism recognition program:
    1. Work with Foundations of Service Committee to develop AOE application criteria.
    2. Conduct outreach to schools.
    3. Work with Foundations of Service Committee to select awardees.
    4. Manage communications, logistics, and registration for approximately 20 AOE participants.

Communications (30%)

  1. Manage Volunteer TN's routine communications:
    a. Create and monitor strategic social media content to reach new audiences and connect with partners to strengthen the voice of service and volunteerism within Tennessee.
    b. Engage staff and commissioners in social media.
    c. Create monthly newsletter.
    d. Manage website content, including ADA compliance.
    e. Respond to information requests.
    f. Conduct state and federal appropriator education on funding announcements.
    g. Develop public service announcements and other media campaigns to recruit volunteers.
  2. Develop and manage Volunteer TN's marketing activities:
    a. Develop and implement marketing plans for the Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism & Service-Learning (TCVSL) and GVSA.
    b. Create Volunteer TN initiatives and program-specific branding materials, as needed.
    c. Complete annual branding guides and training for commissioners and program staff.

Other (5%)
1.    Prepare TCVSL and GVSA summary reports. 
2.    Supervise Volunteer Tennessee outreach and CSPN interns. 
3.    Participate in state, regional, and national meetings and trainings.
4.    Support Volunteer TN Communications Committee.
5.    Other responsibilities as assigned.

Work Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in volunteer management systems and project administration required (State Service Commission experience preferred).
  2. Understanding of principles and practices of volunteer management systems, project administration, and events planning and familiarity with state service commission and state administrative procedures.
  3. Strong writing, editing, and digital content skills to effectuate communications and marketing; familiarity with tools like Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress, and social media scheduling platforms preferred.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain high-level professional relationships and commitment to teamwork.
  5. Ability to express oneself clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to problem-solve in a complex regulatory environment.
  7. Ability to prioritize and get things done calmly in a fast-moving environment.
  8. Ability to prepare and maintain detailed, accurate records, reports, and files.

Work Environment

Significant deadline pressures, frequent interruptions, daily telephone/video and email work. Position is eligible for work-from-home; however, Tennessee residency is required, Nashville residency preferred. Volunteer Tennessee cannot cover relocation expenses. Approximately 5-10% travel required for commission meetings, program visits, and days of service. Main office is located in Nashville, TN. Salary and Benefits:
